Was born in 1961 in Krasnodar, graduated from Institute of the countries of Asia and Africa at the Moscow State University of M. Lomonosov. Specialization — modern history of Mozambique. In 1990 finished postgraduate study of Institute of general history of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Candidate of historical sciences. PhD on sociology.
Since August, 1990 he has worked for Immanuel in the Fernand Braudel Center for the Study of Economies, Historical Systems and Civilization at Binghamton University until 2005. Now teaches macro historical sociology at the North Western University of Chicago.
Main subjects of researches of the last years: reinterpretation of a trajectory of the USSR in the long term the world-systems analysis , Post-Soviet wars in the Caucasus, global capitalist transformation of our days.
